Saturate your Soul with Scripture - God reveals How

Tuesday, 31 May 2011 23:30

Many of us rely solely on SCRIPTURE MEMORY, or READING THE BIBLE IN A YEAR to get God's Word into our hearts and minds. The truth is God has revealed several ways to SATURATE OUR SOULS WITH SCRIPTURE. Are you taking advantage of all of them? Here are some tools from Scripture to help us all!

The Apostle Paul wrote, "For we do not write you anything you cannot read or understand."

II Corinthians 1:13

In other words, he is saying: "If you can read this, you can know God's will."

Does your belief that the Bible is the word of God manifest itself by the amount of time, effort, work and hunger you invest in it?

There are few books, actually NONE, like the Bible, written to be read and understood universally on life's major issues. God has revealed his will clearly - to the point that we are without excuse if we miss it.

Even the moon and sun, from the beginning served as "SIGNS" from God to show his will for set seasons and times for his people. Genesis 1:14, Psalm 104:19

God's will is not a secret - and his word makes his will clear. God doesn't hide his will and then say "You're getting warmer!" as we look for it. He wants us to find it and do it! He's given us his word.

Nothing is written in the Bible that it is beyond basic understanding - after a little effort and study. Even the parts that are "difficult to understand" just take some effort on our part to leave "undistorted." II Peter 3:16

Mark Twain once quipped, "It's not the things in the Bible I don't understand that bother me. It's the things I DO understand!"

God has done everything possible to show us his will.

How well do you know your Bible?

How well could you explain to someone what the Bible is?

How well do you know the channels (habits) God prescribes for learning his word? There's a lot more to practice than just "reading through it in a year."

Attached are a pair of Tools for you to "WORK" with.

Tools make work easier, but there is still WORK to do.

Solomon said, "Much study wearies the body." Ecclesiastes 12:12

Have your Bible study times worn you out - in a good way?

Bible Literacy Tool #1 - Five Ways to Grasp God's Word

Here are 5 basic ways to take in God's word into your mind, heart and soul... Complete Notes / Quiet Times can be downloaded here.

The more you practice each Biblical habit, "the better grasp" you will have on the scriptures... All of them are important to practice.

Read - Revelation 1:3, Ephesians 3:4, Acts 8:28

Meditate - Psalm 1, II Tim 2:7, II Cor 3:17-18

Memorize - Rom 10:8, Proverbs 22:17-18

Listen / Hear - Prov 8:32-35, Col 4:16, I Tim 4:13, James 1:22 “He who has Ears to Hear”

Study - Ezra 7:10, Acts 17:10-11, Matthew 13:23

Bible Literacy Tool #2 - The Sufficiency of God's Word

Psalm 19:7-9 Quiet Time Chart

What is the difference between a statute, a decree, the law, or a command? What adjectives describe scripture? What are the blessings of getting into scripture?

"Definitions, Adjectives, Blessings of God's Word"

See more information and additional materials at this link. After we have bowed to the Lordship of Jesus, we are advised, "continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as your were taught, overflowing with thankfullness." Colossians 2:6-7

Incidentally, a dictionary in your own language is a better tool than trying to research Greek or Hebrew words! If you don't take time to understand even the translated words in your own mother tongue, what additional benefit is there in attempting to learn the original ancient languages? Trust the translators of trusted versions. Grasp the meaning in your native language! The truths will resonate throughout the rest of the Bible like sympathetic musical notes stirred by other like notes.

Deuteronomy 30:11-14

"Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, “Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, “Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it."

You can't obey it, if you don't know it. Doing what scripture says is the lifetime challenge for us all.

John 13:17, James 1:22-25, Matthew 7:21-26, Psalm 119

Incidentally, a sixth key way to spiritually drink in God's word can be done by raising both hands in Praise and Song. See Colossians 3:15-17 and Ephesains 5:18-20

May our hearts connect through the Spirit and His word to our Father in Heaven. For more on singing and worship see this article.
