January 28, 2015 - We are grateful that all of our HOPE worldwide Chapters in the Northeast are on alert and have prepared the volunteers in the affected areas. Our focus was to prepare the volunteers and to make sure that there was a plan for the elderly, sick and shut in. As reports come in from the field, we will do our best to coordinate a response. Northeast USA, January 26, 2015 – With Winter Storm Juno forecast to impact this region Monday evening into Tuesday, HOPE worldwide Disaster Services staff are on alert and are prepared to support local HOPE worldwide Chapters affected by storm-related emergencies, as needed.
HOPE worldwide expects over 6,200 volunteers to serve during this year's MLK Day of Service in more than fifty locations across the US. Chapters are planning to honor the life and legacy of Dr. King by distributing life-saving fire prevention and disaster preparedness information to neighbors in at-risk areas, holding blood drives, serving homeless families and those living in shelters, holding food and clothing drives and serving families of children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
Goldstone School of HOPE worldwide (GSHW) is located in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. GSHW's mission is to provide Cambodian youth with the leadership skills and opportunities to change our country through education. The Goldstone School of HOPE worldwide provides an environment of academic excellence that fosters proficiency in English, computer literacy, lasting relationships, and Christian moral values.
Greg and Nancy Taylor are members of the Halifax-Dartmouth Church of Christ, and also volunteer as the HOPE worldwide of Canada Chapter Directors for their church. They have two teenagers (Cameron, who is a disciple in the campus ministry, and Jillian, who is on her journey to become one, and is in the high school ministry). The Taylors recently returned from participating in the HOPE Youth Corps and Volunteer Corps in Delhi, India during the Christmas holiday. Here is their story of service.
HOPE Youth Corps has a great year in store! Our theme is "Into All the World," and we are literally going into all the world. We have 14 summer HYCs, four additional Singles Corps, and two winter HYCs. Most of our programs are also open to families. So start planning and saving!
We hope that your family and loved ones enjoyed a happy and healthy holiday season. December was a busy month for HOPE worldwide Bolivia. Among many activities this Christmas, we coordinated donations to over 40 families of food, clothing and toys and lots of love. On Christmas Eve we held a special joyful evening of movies, gifts and popcorn for orphans.
Brett and Beth Kreider are members of the Northern Virginia Church of Christ. They have three children (Logan, Noah and Elena) who are also disciples.
