Athens Church of Christ Seeks Experienced Ministry Couple

The Athens Church of Christ is seeking an experienced minister and his wife to serve a thriving church in the heart of the southeast. It is our desire that the successful candidate will work alongside our senior minister, Sonny Sessions, and will succeed him in the near future upon his retirement.

AthensChurchOfChrist DowntownDuring this time, the ideal candidate will be given the primary responsibility for developing and overseeing the emerging youth and family ministries, therefore, experience in these areas would be preferred. Responsibilities will also include preaching and teaching, facilitating church events, as well as raising up young couples who aspire to leadership. Previous experience as a principal church leader and a degree from an accredited Christian college or university preferred. 

The Athens Church of Christ is a racially and ethnically diverse congregation spanning a wide range of ages, with approximately 450 attending Sunday worship and 60 college students led by a full-time campus minister. The church is shepherded by five elders who oversee 30 family groups. Financial affairs are overseen by a board of directors who advise the elders. 

Athens, Georgia is home to the University of Georgia as well as a number of other colleges. A small southern town in feel, Athens hosts a vibrant music scene and a very diverse population, with access to a number of cultural and educational activities. It is situated in the Georgia Piedmont region, with easy access to mountains, beaches, and metropolitan centers. We are 60 miles east of Atlanta, and about 80 miles from Atlanta International Airport.
