USA New England and New York
It's been a month since Passport to the Land of Enough swept through our New England family of churches, leaving a swath of Christian simplicity in its wake. Passport to the Land of Enough is a 30-day devotional book about Christian simplicity and mission calling each reader to action. All over the Boston Church of Christ, stories abound of brothers and sisters taking on the mission challenges.
The Central Jersey Church of Christ has reached a new and exciting milestone since being planted by the NYC Church of Christ in 2004. With 500 in attendance for our Easter service, one of the church’s first evangelists, Robert Carrillo, appointed Johnny Rivera and Tommy Beene as elders via a special video message. Johnny and Tommy are the first elders to serve in the church’s history.
It seems appropriate that I update the Boston church and her leaders as to the progression of my health challenges and its effect on my capacity to work full time.
For 42 years I have had the privilege to serve in the full-time ministry. I began fresh out of college and saw God work in amazing ways in campus ministries in North Carolina. We moved to West Virginia and then moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, to plant a church there. With each move we added a child, including Boston. When we moved to Boston, like many, we planned to be here a short time, but God had other plans. We have now been here 30 years.

For Team Conor: Road to Recovery, a lot has happened since our last updates in August. Conor McCormick, a young man in the Pioneer Valley Church of Christ teen ministry, suffered a severe, paralyzing neck injury while enjoying a fun day in a swimming pool with friends this summer.
On Saturday, August 27, 2016 we will be hosting a music festival in West Springfield, Massachusetts to raise money to support Team Conor. Conor McCormick is a vibrant, faithful 16-year-old who was involved in a tragic pool accident on July 17. On August 9, 2016 all of the staff disciples from around New England gathered for a day of fun and fellowship. The leaders met at a park in Northborough, Massachusetts, to sing, pray and be inspired by God’s word.
Augusto Russell, a member of the Greater Hartford Church of Christ, recently won the "Professional Agent of the Year" award from PIA National. This is the highest national award of distinction by this organization. "I believe he is one of the finest human beings I have come across in my career," said Thomas Leonardi, former Insurance Commissioner of Connecticut. "He genuinely cares about people, his community, and his profession."
Exactly eight years ago today, JamQuest had its first event ever: a small basketball tournament at the Boys & Girls Club of Ridgefield, Connecticut. Just a simple service project for an eighth grade assignment. Fifty people came out to support. We raised something like $2,700. That's where it was supposed to stop. We had no intention of continuing it into the next year, but God had different plans.
