In the Face of Tragedy in Las Vegas

Our hearts are breaking in light of Sunday night's tragedy here in Las Vegas. While some of our members were at the music festival or at work near the site of the incident, we are grateful that no one in the Las Vegas church family was injured. However, many are affected as their friends and colleagues were caught in the shooting and some have even lost their lives.

Salt Lake Christian Church Transitions to New Leadership

God has led our church down new paths since last fall. God moved in the hearts of Kip and Bethany Harms, the evangelist and women’s ministry leader who had been leading the Salt Lake Christian Church since April of 2011, showing them a need within their family that could not be ignored. Amazingly, an opening for a ministry position was revealed. With that potential once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and the full support of the core leadership group here in Utah, the Harms set out to make their transition. They pledged to remain around to assist with finding a couple to replace themselves.

San Diego Church Appoints Ron Brumley as Elder

So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors [shepherds] and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. -- Ephesions 4:11-13

On January 25, 2015 the San Diego Church of Christ proudly appointed Ron Brumley once again to the eldership of the congregation. Once again Ron, responded to the call to shepherd God's flock. For many it was a historic moment seeing Ron address the congregation as our elder. Many members remember the days when every Sunday, the service was opened and closed by elders Ron Brumley and George Havins. Ron and George were originally appointed elders in 1978. In 1989 Ron and Linda moved to Chicago to build up an eldership there.

Beloved Father, Grandfather and Disciple Passes Away

As the father of four grown sons and their wives, all disciples, the grandfather of ten young adult disciples, and a dearly loved leader of the community, Peter Chacon’s recent conversion (March 10, 2014, San Diego Church of Christ) inspired many, and his recent passing will be enthusiastically honored.

His distinguished career as a powerful agent of change in the community is outlined below in the biography written by his second son, Paul. Peter’s oldest son, Chris, gives us a glimpse of his faith when he said of his father: “He had no fear of death because he was confident in his faith. He made peace with God and we confidently know he is at rest in paradise with our mother, no longer restricted by his fading body, while heaven awaits him. Thank you dad for the gift of being a loving man with a profound respect for every person. May you find eternity in the light with God. Like you told me when I asked you for some advice a few years ago, 'Life is very short...and eternity is very long.’”
