Salt Lake Christian Church Transitions to New Leadership Featured

God has led our church down new paths since last fall. God moved in the hearts of Kip and Bethany Harms, the evangelist and women’s ministry leader who had been leading the Salt Lake Christian Church since April of 2011, showing them a need within their family that could not be ignored. Amazingly, an opening for a ministry position was revealed. With that potential once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and the full support of the core leadership group here in Utah, the Harms set out to make their transition. They pledged to remain around to assist with finding a couple to replace themselves.

BlockFamily2016-BW-7372With the assistance of the Denver and L.A. churches, a few excellent candidates were identified. The Salt Lake Christian Church was fortunate to welcome Mike and Melissa Block into our fold on October 1, 2016. The Blocks had been leading a region of the Orlando Church of Christ in Florida. Immediately earning the respect of everyone here, and coming with high recommendations by leaders from across many of the ICOC churches, the Blocks brought with them well-rounded experience and a passion for all of the ministry groups. Their strengths and training include Marriage and Family Dynamics, Youth and Family Ministry, Good Enough Parenting, etc. God had also placed on their hearts the desire to once again live in the Rocky Mountains.

The Blocks came in and hit the ground running. To finish out 2016, they focused on the theme “Questions that Jesus asked.” The intriguing questions posed to the New Testament followers by our Lord were to get each person to examine their own hearts and their commitment to him. Posing those same questions from scripture to the Salt Lake City congregation inspired and challenged us all to take our commitment to him and his mission to new heights.

The Blocks have also begun to implement many new ideas in the short time that they have been here. Some of those include: hosting a community outreach Trunk-or-Treat for October 31, having a Veteran’s Day invitational service to honor our veterans, and beginning a targeted focus on our technology and media presence online.

Going forward in 2017, we are anxiously anticipating the amazing things that God will continue to do in Salt Lake City, Utah!

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.
“As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
As the rain and the snow come down from heaven,
and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace;
the mountains and hills will burst into song before you,
and all the trees of the field will clap their hands." – Isaiah 55:8-12
