Single brothers and sisters are advancing the gospel of Christ by using their time, talents, resources, and hearts to strengthen and encourage the churches around the world. Last year, SURGE traveled to five cities in Europe. Several disciples who went shared about their experiences in the articles below.
In late January, all the Central, South America, and Carribbean church leaders gathered at the Miami School of Missions. A couple of us also joined them for two days on behalf of SURGE Singles Missions. We shared about single disciples on fire for God, and how 25 single disciples traveled to encourage five churches in Europe last summer! These 25 disciples came from 14 different churches in nine different nations, and another group of 10 disciples from nine US churches visited and encouraged four churches in Brazil just last October.
On January 4, 2016, Alaskan disciple Reese Hanneman (pictured at right, middle) earned the title of U.S. National Champion when he skied to first place in the 1.5km Freestyle Sprint at the U.S. National Country Championships in Houghton, Michigan. On the following Saturday, he took second in the 1.5km Classic Sprint to add to his impressive list of accolades. This national championship is the second of his career, having won the national championship for the 1.5km Classic Sprint in 2014.
”And they exceeded our expectations: They gave themselves first of all to the Lord, and then by the will of God also to us. So we urged Titus, just as he had earlier made a beginning, to bring also to completion this act of grace on your part. But since you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you—see that you also excel in this grace of giving” -- 2 Corinthians 8:6-7
DT Heart & Soul for three years. I made a few connections here and there but nothing that led to a serious relationship. My mom (who is also a disciple) asked me if I was still on the site. I told her my subscription was running out and I didn’t see a point in renewing it since I hadn’t had much luck. She had initially convinced me to sign up by saying “God may chose to work in your love life through DTHS but if you don’t sign up, He definitely won’t.” She urged me to stick with it once more and offered to pay for my subscription. I agreed and began to look through the new potential matches. In December of 2013, I had been on-and-off of
The Singles Ministry in our fellowship continues to be a source of inspiration, hope and joy. Those of us who serve the amazing singles disciples feels humbled and deeply honored to be serving the singles ministry worldwide at such an exciting time as this.
The International Church of Christ Nigeria hosted the 2015 National Singles Retreat in Ilorin. The theme was "In Him We Live."
A large number of singles disciples from all across the country converged.
The retreat started on November 20 with lots of exciting moments as the Ilorin Singles Ministry displayed a magnificent and astounding performance at the opening ceremony, which highlighted the retreat's purpose. The National Singles Coordinator, Mike Olomo, welcomed all the delegates and officials. He commended every participant at the retreat for their heart and dedication. He encouraged the singles to connect and fellowship with one another, and to enjoy quality time of friendship during and after the retreat. Mike said, “One thing you need to take away from this gathering is the power and importance of friendship.”
In October 2013, Ritchel Rosario (Singapore) took advantage of a free trial offer to join DT Heart & Soul to see what it was like. Shortly after, she met Matthew Flores from Tucson, Arizona. They began dating in September 2014 and were married November 8, 2015. Ritchel said, ”Thank you very much for working things out on the site that has helped both me and Matt to meet each other. You guys are making a difference to the singles ministry around the world.” Here is the story of how they began their relationship:
Through Singles United Representing God EVERYWHERE! (SURGE), ten single brothers and sisters travelled throughout Brazil to encourage and strengthen disciples in four different churches. They first met in Sao Paolo to encourage the singles there. Then they divided into two groups for a three day visit the churches of Belo Horizonte and Salvador. Finally, they met back together in the city of Brasilia to encourage the church there. Here is a personal report from a brother who went on the trip:
