Last week, our introductory Bible Talk was on Philip and Andrew. This week, we will look at Jonathan and his armor bearer from the account in 1 Samuel 14. And here is Part 3

Intro: What does loyalty mean to you?

  • Loyalty is defined as: "faithfulness to commitments or obligations"

  • Give background/context

Q: Why do you think it is mentioned twice that no one else knew about Jonathan's plot to attack? (v. 6) 

Q: What stands out to you about Jonathan's statement? (v. 7)

Q: What stands out to you about the armor bearer's response?

Q: What would have made the armor bearer so quick to trust Jonathan and his plan?

Q: What were the objections that he could have raised but chose not to?

Q: What are some things that can keep us from thinking/acting like Jonathan?

Q: What are some things that can keep us from thinking/acting like the armor bearer?

Q: Would you want a friend like the armor bearer? Would you want a friend like Jonathan?

Practical: This next month, what are some ways that we can step out on faith and be like Jonathan? Ideas/input

Conclusion: We need friendship in two ways!

  • Someone to push us into spiritual battle, to lead the way with a faithful/ adventurous example.

  • And faithful, loyal friends, someone who will lend us their wholehearted support and strength as we step out on faith.

Let's be like these two young men who went after it "heart and soul" and won a great victory for the Lord.
